Itinerary for Photography Workshop Around Vietnam

Day 1 · Ha Noi

Afternoon light will illuminate our initial photographic exploration upon arrival. We begin with focused access to the Incense Village, capturing its artisanal processes and architectural details. Later, we gather in the town center for a welcome dinner, fostering conversation and anticipation for the photographic opportunities ahead. This session emphasizes creating compelling visual narratives through distinct locations and cultural insights, promising rich visual storytelling.

Day 2 · Ha Noi

This morning, we explore the nuanced details of a traditional soy sauce village. Our focus will be on documenting the time-honored fermentation process and the textures of aging barrels, offering rich opportunities for close-up studies.

The afternoon shifts to a bamboo fishing trap village. We will photograph the precise handcrafting of intricate traps, highlighting the skilled execution and the interplay of light and material. This offers a compelling narrative of artisanal practice and its natural setting.

Day 3 · Hanoi - Hue

Begin with dawn light illuminating waterlilies, offering a serene photographic subject. Following this, transition to Hanoi Airport for a flight to Hue. Upon arrival, we focus on Hue's Imperial Citadel. This itinerary prioritizes the interplay of light and architecture, providing access to key visual elements within the city's historic core.

Day 4 · Hue

We engage with the Imperial City's architectural heritage, where models in traditional attire present a nuanced study of light and form. The UNESCO-listed citadel offers a refined backdrop for capturing enduring cultural narratives.

Our focus shifts to the Perfume River, documenting the precise movements of fishermen at dusk. The setting sun provides exceptional opportunities to photograph the serene spectacle of illuminated offerings on the water. Today balances imperial artistry with the authentic cadence of riverine existence.

Day 5 · Hue - Hoi An

Our morning commences at Hue's derelict water park. Explore the atmospheric structures being overtaken by nature, offering distinct visual narratives of decay and resilience.

Transitioning to Hoi An, the afternoon is dedicated to street photography within its vibrant thoroughfares and lantern-lit lanes. Capture the town’s dynamic essence, from markets to historic courtyards. As daylight diminishes, focus on Hoi An’s illuminated lanterns at dusk, providing a compelling visual conclusion.

Day 6 · Hoi An - Phu Yen

Early morning river excursion offers unique access to Hoi An fishermen employing the traditional Ro net technique. Capture the interplay of light on water and the geometry of their craft.

Later, engage in intimate portraiture of an elder, focusing on their distinctive character and the subtle nuances of light. Transition to Phu Yen for new photographic opportunities as the day unfolds.

Day 7 · Phu Yen - Khanh Hoa

In Phu Yen, we focus on the visual narrative of coastal life, observing fishermen at sea and the potential for dynamic net-casting action. Our route includes a visit to a village renowned for its traditional coracle boat craftsmanship.

We transition to the province of Khanh Hoa, seeking its distinct visual elements. This day offers a curated exploration of Phu Yen's maritime heritage and the artisanal skills involved in boat construction.

Day 8 · Khanh Hoa - Ninh Thuan

Dawn illuminates Khanh Hoa's salt farmers against luminous flats. Next, we capture the meticulous craft of net mending, documenting repair dedication. Seasonal salt field operations dictate other Khanh Hoa seascapes. We travel to Phan Rang Thap Cham. The day ends documenting a shepherd guiding his flock across undulating dunes at sunset. This visual narrative explores resilience and the Vietnamese coast's austere beauty.

Day 9 · Ninh Thuan - Binh Thuan

At dawn, the Nam Cuong sand dunes offer a study in light and form. Capture the silhouette of a Cham woman against the evolving sand. We then visit a Cham village, focusing on the tactile artistry of their ancestral pottery techniques.

Proceed to Mui Ne, observing the interplay of light on its distinctive sand formations. This coastal location presents a day of focused visual opportunities and authentic cultural engagement.

Day 10 · Binh Thuan - Ho Chi Minh City

Our final morning presents a study in light and motion on Binh Thuan’s dunes, focusing on the human element within the vast landscape. Later, in Vung Tau, we gain access to a local workshop to document the precise techniques of traditional steamed fish preparation.

Our departure coincides with arrival at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport by 3 p.m. We conclude this photographic expedition, leaving you to process the visual narrative captured throughout Vietnam.
