After checking into the hotel and gathering for a brief orientation about the journey ahead, our photographic adventure begins with a captivating visit to the charming incense village — a location close to my heart. One of my photographs from this very village was featured in the June 2017 issue of National Geographic, bringing international recognition to its rich visual beauty.
You’ll have the opportunity to creatively capture the vivid colors of bundled incense, the striking symmetry of the arrangements, and the artistry of local craftsmen at work. It’s a perfect setting for both conceptual and documentary-style photography. After this enriching shoot, we head back to Hanoi, where the day concludes with a warm welcome dinner — a great chance to relax, connect, and discuss the inspiring journey ahead.
We begin the day by capturing the busy streets along Hanoi’s iconic ceramic road — a massive mosaic mural that stretches for kilometers and was created to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of this beautiful city. The vibrant artwork and constant movement of daily life provide an energetic setting for street photography, blending tradition with modern urban rhythm.
Throughout the day, our photography group transitions to the rich heritage of the soy sauce village, capturing the traditional craftsmanship and time-honored techniques that shape this culinary cornerstone. As we immerse ourselves in the village, the air becomes infused with the savory aroma of soy, enhancing the sensory experience and enriching our visual narrative.
Later, the journey continues as we head to the bamboo fishing trap village. This quiet, skillful community showcases the ingenuity and resourcefulness of local life. Here, we’ll capture fleeting moments of artisans weaving intricate traps by hand — highlighting the deep, symbiotic connection between humanity and the natural world through thoughtful, close-up storytelling.
Leaving the vibrant city of Hanoi behind, our photography group sets off on an immersive cultural and visual journey. Our first stop is the centuries-old village of Duong Lam, a well-preserved settlement that offers a glimpse into traditional northern Vietnamese architecture and way of life. The ancient houses, narrow alleyways, and local life here provide countless opportunities for capturing authentic moments and textures.
After a thorough photo walk and cultural exploration, we continue our drive southward toward the scenic province of Ninh Binh. Once there, we explore the dramatic limestone karst landscapes, lush rice fields, and historical temples that earned the area its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The afternoon light casts a golden hue over the landscape, creating ideal conditions for landscape and cultural photography.
Early in the morning, our photography group rises to capture the serene beauty of Tam Coc valley, where limestone mountains cradle gentle waterways adorned with blooming waterlilies. The soft mist of dawn and reflections on the water create a magical atmosphere, perfect for evocative landscape shots. After breakfast, we begin our long but rewarding journey northwest toward Mu Cang Chai, one of Vietnam’s most iconic destinations for landscape photography. Along the way, we witness the countryside shift from lowland paddies to dramatic mountain terrain, offering countless spontaneous photo opportunities.
In the afternoon, we pause in the enchanting embrace of Tu Le valley, a picturesque region known for its lush fields, ethnic villages, and golden hues at sunset. As the day draws to a close, we capture the valley bathed in warm, late-day light — an ideal moment for wide-angle compositions and storytelling images. We then continue on to Mu Cang Chai and settle into one of the town’s top resorts, where we can rest and prepare for a full day of photography in the terraced highlands ahead.
The day begins at the breathtaking Mam Xoi viewpoint in Mu Cang Chai, where the sunrise bathes the rolling landscapes in a golden glow. We spend the day wandering through the stunning rice terraces of Mu Cang Chai, each vista revealing vibrant green fields framed by towering mountains. As afternoon unfolds, our journey leads us deeper into this scenic wonderland, with every step uncovering a new tapestry of natural splendor.
As the day winds down, we soak in the warm glow of sunset illuminating the “Horse-shoe” rice terraces, capturing the last rays of light as they dance across the elegant curves of this agricultural marvel. Each photograph weaves a visual symphony, blending the radiance of sunrise, the rich heritage of H’Mong traditions, and the enduring charm of the rice terraces—creating a day infused with the vibrant essence of nature and culture in this enchanting corner of Vietnam.
As our time in Mu Cang Chai nears its end, we rise early, eager to embrace the next chapter of our journey. Carrying cherished memories of the mesmerizing rice terraces, the warm hospitality of the H’Mong community, and the awe-inspiring landscapes, we say a heartfelt goodbye to this peaceful valley.
By afternoon, we board a flight from Hanoi’s Noi Bai airport to Hue, seamlessly transitioning to our next destination. We then settle into a luxurious 5-star hotel in Hue, a serene haven to relax and savor the day’s unforgettable moments.
Enjoy a stunning day in Hue on our Vietnam fall photo tour, starting with the sunrise over the lagoon just outside the city. Next, explore the grand Imperial City alongside Vietnamese models dressed in traditional outfits, bringing authenticity and cultural depth to every photo. Admire the detailed architecture and bold colors of this UNESCO World Heritage Site as you capture its magnificence through your lens. Later, we capture fishermen casting their nets in time-honored fashion as the sun dips below the horizon. The day winds down with a tranquil lantern ceremony along the river during the captivating blue hour.
Day 8. Hue - Hoi An
We begin the day early to capture the first light over the peaceful lagoon of Hue, where fishermen glide across still waters under soft morning skies — an ethereal setting perfect for serene landscape compositions. After sunrise, we visit the Thanh Tien paper flower village, where artisans craft vibrant blossoms by hand. The vivid colors and skilled hands at work provide a wonderful opportunity for both detail shots and environmental portraits. We also make a brief stop at the abandoned water park on the outskirts of Hue, an intriguing and surreal location offering striking contrast to the traditional scenes earlier in the day.
Later, we journey to the ancient town of Hoi An. As golden hour approaches, we frame the historic riverfront bathed in soft, diffused sunset light. After dusk, the town comes alive with the glow of lanterns and the vibrant energy of the Hoi An night market — a perfect opportunity for street photography, colorful bokeh, and atmospheric low-light captures that celebrate the magic of Vietnam after dark.
Our photographic adventure continues with lively glimpses of traditional grass mat-making, offering beautiful patterns and textures ideal for close-up shots. We then journey through the countryside for a scenic ride that leads us to the water’s edge, where iconic coracle boats float peacefully, ready to be framed against the warm tones of early morning light. Throughout the day, we also witness local fishermen sewing large fishing nets by hand—a unique cultural activity that makes for stunning environmental portraits and storytelling frames.
Later, we return to Hoi An’s charming old quarter for a carefully arranged portrait session featuring a graceful local lady dressed in traditional attire, her elegance complemented by the town’s golden walls and soft ambient light. Each moment we capture today weaves together the vibrant threads of Vietnam’s rich cultural story.
Begin your day with an unforgettable immersion, capturing the timeless artistry of local fishermen as they expertly cast their nets—a striking scene steeped in Vietnam’s cultural heritage. Engage with the treasured “Ro Cho” fishing tradition, handed down through generations, as we photograph the mastery of fisherman, a seasoned artisan with 46 years of experience.
We conclude our journey upon arriving at Da Nang International Airport by 3 p.m. Whether you extend your stay to explore more of central Vietnam or depart for home, let your photographs serve as lasting memories of this amazing nation.

Vietnam provides fantastic photography opportunities throughout the year, with each season showing different aspects of its beauty. The best time to visit often depends on what you want to photograph and which parts of the country you plan to see. For example, the dry season (from about November to April) in the north and south has nice weather and clear skies, which is perfect for taking pictures of landscapes. The central part of Vietnam has its dry season from around March to August. Traveling with a good tour company and guide like us will help you be in the best places at the best times to capture amazing photos of Vietnam, no matter the season.
